December 6-12, 2018: Two of Swords

A young woman sits on a cold, stone bench. This is a stage card, because it’s drawn to look as though she is sitting on a stage. This means that the point of view of the audience, of other people, affects her position. The water and rocky land behind her suggest that the path is not as easy or direct as it seems, and that emotions are flooding the situation. The moon represents the importance of using intuition, heart and mind during any decision making.

This card appears when I’m avoiding a decision that I don’t want to make. Or I’m not addressing an emotion or a situation that needs to be processed. The swords across the woman’s chest in the card disappear off the page. This means that she is literally missing the point!

Sometimes the woman in the card is choosing to wear a blindfold. However, there are situations where the blindfold is not under her control and there is an element the situation that has not been revealed yet. This could mean that I need to really think about all of the options at hand; there is a struggle happening beneath the surface.

This week, Mercury is doing a dance across the heavens. Mercury is the planet of Hermes, the messenger of the Gods. The actions of Mercury affect our reactions and our ability to communicate. On Thursday, it stops spinning in retrograde and goes direct, making us all better observers. This is a good time to fix previous mistakes that you made during Mercury retrograde. Practice tolerance and open mindedness. Business decisions and financial agreements will be easier to manage.

On Friday, the new moon rises in Sagittarius. Sagittarius is the archer, often represented by a centaur. The arrow of the archer is always pointing upwards because Sagittarius is constantly seeking a higher level of being. Use this energy to expand your consciousness and widen the scope of your dreams. I like to spend the new moon making messy meals or starting projects around the house. During the Sagittarius moon, I will likely be a lot more optimistic about getting things done.

On Wednesday the 12th, communicative Mercury makes a move into spiritual Sagittarius as well. I can tell that this will be the time to take off my two of swords blindfold. My spirit guides will be talking to me.  I think that in my case, the result of a decision or new information will be revealed to me, most likely about my career. I’m trying to practice some patience in the meantime. Like the woman in the two of swords, sometimes you need to close your eyes to see your heart. Other times, you need to rip off that blindfold and bust through your own bullshit.

Remember to bury your spent crystals in the Earth under the light of a new moon. I have a broken piece of flourite that I will be laying to rest. This is also a time to make to-do lists and set your intentions.

November 29 – December 5, 2018: The Hermit

The Hermit is a wise old man that has retreated into the wintery mountains for a bit of solace and reflection. He carries a glowing star inside of lantern, barely lighting his way. This card comes when you need to trust that the steps you are taking have you going in the right direction. Not everything is going to be revealed to you at once.

What’s going on this week?

Friday, November 30 is the Festival of Hecate Trivia, the goddess of the cross roads. She is often depicted facing three ways and holding torches, so that she can see in all directions. The three sides of Hecate also represent her powers working in threes: birth, change, death; past, present, future; etc. Shakespeare called her the “Queen of Ghosts,” and she is the keeper of the underworld. She is worshipped during Winter, when everything is dormant, the year is ending, and it’s time for personal reflection. I think that Hecate and the Hermit would be great friends!

On Saturday, December 1, Mercury retrograde enters Scorpio. If you are negotiating any new business partnerships, making investments, or spending some savings, it would be wise to wait until Mercury does back into direct motion on Thursday, December 6, if possible. On Sunday, Venus also enters Scorpio which will activate very passionate emotions like ambition or jealousy. Check yourself before you wreck yourself.

If you find yourself at a crossroad this week, leave an offering for the Goddess Hecate and kindly ask her to grant your wish. Trust that the road where she shines her torch might not be completely illuminated, but like the Hermit, trust that it’s the right path. Indulge in some alone time. Winter is in full effect here in Rhode Island, so I’ll be cooking up some comfort food and sitting by the fire. Stay cozy my friends!

October 25-31, 2018: Knight of Cups

The Knight of Cups rides on a white horse. He brings you a peace offering. His winged helmet represents the wings of Mercury, he is a spiritual person. The fish on his tunic mean he has a wild imagination. He helps you reach new levels of your subconscious. This card is very romantic, idealistic and noble.

The knight will serve you well this week, as Mercury has a significant position. On the 29th, Mercury is conjunct Jupiter in Scorpio, giving you a broader outlook on life. Like the knight, you will be optimistic. Journal your ideas or risk forgetting them!

On the 31st we celebrate Halloween and there is an abundance of supernatural energy. This is also known as All Hallows Eve. It’s the Pagan festival of Samhain which means, seed for Spring. It’s time to prepare the gardens for winter and plant bulbs for next year.

This Halloween, detail oriented Mercury is on the move into expressive Sagittarius and your optimism continues to increase. Venus in retrograde enters Libra, which has a way of opening up our minds and making us more tolerant of new ideas. Indulge in stories and tall tales by watching movies, reading a good book or seeing a performance.

October 18th – 24th, 2018: Two of Swords

This card shows a blindfolded person sitting on a hard, cold stone bench. Her arms cross her chest, protecting her heart. She holds a sword over each shoulder. The swords are heavy to hold, so long that the tips disappear off of the card. The water behind her is flooding the land, coming closer to her. This person is so set on protecting her heart, that she’s missing the point. She’s backed herself into a stalemate of indecision. The moon in the sky represents the passage of time while she is in this state. Is she waiting? Thinking? Hiding?

On the 19th, Mercury is in Scorpio trine Neptune in Pluto. Use this energy to get to the heart of issues and shine a light on dark places. Seek mindfulness. The sun enters Scorpio on the 23rd, which is the best time for self transformation. If you are sensitive, subtle and complex, it’s time to step out of your comfort zone. Don’t be afraid to upset the status quo. Be the person that you’ve always wanted to be. Start today!

The full moon rises in Taurus on the 24th. It’s important to ground yourself on this full moon. You can do this by meditating, walking barefoot in the grass or simply having a nice meal. Appeal to the five senses. This is a more simplistic time than last week. Counterbalance the energy of the Two of Swords. Don’t hide from the truth. Life passes you by if you stick to comfort and security.

October 11 – 17, 2018: Seven of Swords

In this card, we see a man gathering up seven swords as he sneaks them away from a military camp. He smirks, but he doesn’t realize that he’s been found out! A soldier in the distance holds his sword in the air to signal the thief. This card suggests something or someone is untrustworthy.

This week, the Fall Equinox is on the 12th and the Sun is in Libra. Day and night become equals. From here on out the days will become shorter. Parts of your life will seem more harmonious than usual. Surround yourself with beautiful things. Go to an art museum or go window shopping.

On the 15th Mercury is conjunct Venus in Scorpio. That feeling of balance is going to go off tilt. It shifts to a feeling of obsession. This planetary change brings with it the energy of the Seven of Swords. If you are trying to leave a bad situation, your troubles will follow you. For example, the person you are trying to avoid becomes fixated, or the consequences of your actions are harsh and unexpected. People will not be satisfied with appearances, and neither should you be. Do not pacify people during this time. If you’re trying to get away with anything sneaky right now, you will be found out just like the Seven of Swords. Ask yourself, what are you afraid of losing and was it ever yours to begin with?

September 13 – 19, 2018: The Devil

In this card, The Devil is depicted as a Satyr, a class of lustful, drunken woodland gods. In Roman culture, it is depicted as half man, half goat. You may have seen a similar creature in Disney‘s 1997 animated film, Hercules.

The human side of the devil represents sinful behavior. The goat side is symbolic of the scapegoats in our lives that we blame for our problems. The chains on the man and the woman are loose enough; they can lift them off to escape. Yet they stay voluntarily. The Devil is as much about recovery as it is about addictions.

This card is ruled by Capricorn, which is hosting the planet Saturn for three years (2017 – 2020). Saturn in Capricorn may have you yearning for more structure and stability in your life. You’ll be more focused on what responsibilities you voluntarily take on, especially in relationships.

On the 14th, Mercury in Virgo moves opposite of Neptune in Pisces. This energy will make you feel very practical in your thoughts and precise in your actions. Neptune in Pisces only happens once every 165 years, and the planet stays in the sign for 25 years. This reveals new information and incites a new surge of spirituality into the world.

August 30 – September 5, 2018: The Magician

The Magician is number one in the tarot deck; the card of new beginnings and opportunities. The Magician easily manifests what he wants in this world.  He says, “abracadabra,” a phrase with Hebrew origins that means, “I will create as I speak.” He has all four suits of the tarot deck at his altar: wands, cups, swords and pentacles are at the ready.

This card is associated with Mercury, a planet that has some interesting things happening this week. On September 3rd Mercury is in Leo, at a significant angle to Venus in Libra. There will balance and harmony in relationships with others. You should take great care with your words. You are well equipped to promote your ideas clearly, and with style.

On the 5th, Mercury enters Virgo, which will improve your critical thinking skills and help you multitask, handling tedious details with ease. Like the Magician, you have all of the tools you need to accomplish your goals right at your fingertips. Set ambitious goals, and with the best of intentions, get to work!
